Springing Towards Success—It’s All About Balance!
Isabell (“Izzy”) and Ireland Hutchins, the daughters of Lisa and Eric Hutchins, have not only learned to balance on a four inch balance beam, but have also learned to balance their school, family, personal lives and gymnastics.
Isabell started gymnastics five years ago at age six at Level 4 and now has reached the highest possible Junior Olympic Level, Level 10. She followed in her brother Andrew’s footsteps after watching him in gymnastics. She was soon flipping over every piece of furniture in the house. Isabell traveled to the Czech Republic with her coach Kathy to train at Sokol Kolin with their team when she was 8. Since then she has moved to a more advanced gym in Lansing, Michigan, two hours away from her home, to help her further her success in the sport. Isabell trains 5 days a week in the evenings plus 2 morning sessions a week. She spends her travel time studying for subjects she misses and reading. She has maintained all A’s, is on the Honor Roll and has taken part in the GEARS Program.
Isabell has been a State Champion, undefeated on floor at Level 8, a Regional Qualifier, part of Team Ohio for the past two years and undefeated as an All Around competitor at Level 9. Isabell just competed in her first Level 10 meet where she took 1st on bars, 4th on floor and 7th place All Around in the 15 and under age group. At age 11, this is a huge accomplishment.
“Isabell Hutchins is rapidly moving up the gymnastics skill ladder at Twistars USA Gymnastics Club in Lansing, Michigan”, says head coach John Geddert. “Izzy has progressed from a Level 8 Regional Qualifier in 2008 and 2009 to an outstanding Level 9 athlete, winning the AA at the San Diego Classic competition [in 2010] and being undefeated in all other competitions. The next rung on the ladder gave her an opportunity to compete at the highest junior Olympic level (10) at a major competition held in Indianapolis, where she took 1st on bars, 4th on floor and 7th AA with a score of 36.5. Next, she will travel to California again the first week of March to compete in the Byers Invitational in Sacramento. Most gymnasts never reach Level 10. Thus the fact that Izzy has done so by age 11 certainly illustrates her talent level in the sport of gymnastics. Izzy has a rare combination of strength, unbelievable flexibility, athletic ability and the mind set to use these skills to their full potential. It is one thing to have talent; it is a rare quality to have an 11 year old who is willing to use it. We are very pleased with her progress thus far and are looking forward to a very productive career here at Twistars USA,” Says head coach John Geddert.
Isabell’s favorite events are floor and bar routines. She states she can’t imagine doing anything else but gymnastics. She believes she has learned discipline, time management and problem solving. Her goal is to be part of the National Team, to receive a full ride gymnastics and academic scholarship to a top university and to become an Academic and Athletic All American. Being part of the Olympics someday is a far off dream.
Ireland also started gymnastics at age 6 at Level 4, following quickly in her sister’s footsteps as an event State Champion and State Runner-Up. Now at Level 5, she is excelling in every event, but enjoys beam and floor most. She also travels the 4 hour round trip to her gym in Lansing, Michigan, and works out 4 days a week. She, too, spends her travel time on school work, reading, and playing games. Ireland travels to surrounding states as well as Florida and California to compete. She works hard to keep up with the school work she misses and has developed great discipline and leadership skills in both gymnastics and school. Ireland has high expectations and would love to some day be involved in the Olympics.
Both Hutchins girls have made huge sacrifices in their lives in their school, social and play time as well as their diet, but the accomplishments have outweighed anything they could ever have expected to achieve at such a young age. Isabell and Ireland both understand the sacrifices their family has endured to help them carry out their dreams. They are grateful for the talent God has given them and are blessed with their success. They hope to be good role models for other students who want to achieve their dreams in scholastics and athletics.

Water Water Everywhere
The Rossford District Schools collected bottled for the people in the country of Haiti who recently suffered a devastating earthquake. A big thank you to the Wiseman family who collected over $400.00 in donations, for the purchase of water. We thank the following businesses who donated money for water: Fort Meigs Barber, Skotynsky Financial Planning, Moe's Place, Meijer, Casa Barron, Interstate Lanes and Tim and Sue Wiseman.
The 6th grade classes counted bottles and tabulated to number of ounces. They came up with 96,197.3 ounces total, approximately 237 cases of water!
We thank everyone who so generously donated water for the cause!!!
